Neuromodulators are botulinum toxin injections that work by blocking nerve signals in the facial muscles where it is injected. The result of this action prevents muscles from moving, which over time causes lines and wrinkles to appear.
The effects of neurotoxin injections include
Improvement of the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines
Decreased oil production
Facial contouring to provide a younger and refreshed appearance
The amount of product needed varies from person to person, depending on your facial anatomy, muscle strength, and aesthetic preferences. You will be able to discuss this at length with your provider at the time of your consultation.
Most people will start to see initial results within 4-10 days. The full effect will not be seen until 14 days. It is recommend waiting at least 2 weeks before booking a touch-up if needed.
The duration of your neuromodulator treatment depends on several factors, including the product used, your metabolism, and the area treated.
On average:
Forehead, frown lines, crow’s feet – Results typically last 3 to 4 months.
Masseter (jaw slimming, TMJ relief) – Can last 4 to 6 months due to stronger muscles.
Lip flip, chin, bunny lines, under-eye – Often lasts 2 to 3 months due to smaller muscles and higher movement.
Neck (platysmal bands) – Usually lasts 3 to 4 months.
Over time, repeated treatments may lead to longer-lasting effects as the muscles weaken. If you have a faster metabolism or are highly active, your results may wear off slightly sooner.
When it comes to Botox during pregnancy and breastfeeding, research is limited, and there are no conclusive studies proving its safety. Because of this uncertainty, most healthcare professionals recommend avoiding Botox during both pregnancy and breastfeeding as a precaution. While Botox is a localized treatment and unlikely to enter the bloodstream in significant amounts, there is not enough data to confirm whether it could affect a developing baby or be passed through breast milk.
In general, the safest approach is to wait until after pregnancy and breastfeeding before resuming Botox treatments.
